One of these days, I'll write up something about the MSX computers from Japan. They were Z80 and CP/M machines created in the early 1980's. But in the meantime, check the following Web site. As I read it, the MSX was a Z80 with graphics and audio, much like some of the gaming computers of Commodore and Atari of the era. MSX as a standard and product did well enough in Japan and parts of Europe and South America, but did not seem to get far in the USA.
The MSX pages of Peter Dassow's Z80.eu Web site include a history of MSX machines from Microsoft Japan, and use of DRI's CP/M 2.2 and CP/M Plus (3.0) on them. He links to emulators and to disk images.
